Dear Marlpit

I have lived in this village for nearly five years. In that time I have made many friends. There is, however, one (some might say small) problem with village life. It happens on bright sunny days early on in the morning. Yes, you've guessed it, ignorant people lighting bonfires. Don't get me wrong I am not against burning your rubbish, I am just livid that people light them so early. It means no washing can be hung out, no windows can be opened and children that do play out come in smelling like they've just smoked a packet of ciggies, with a cough to boot.

Dog owners are frequently reminded to poop scoop and face large fines if they fail to do so. Isn't there a byelaw about the times people can light bonfires, I was under the impression they could only be lit after dusk so not to cause a public nuisance. After talking to many of my friends on the subject and returning from work twice last week at 10.30am to find my washing ruined again, I feel it is about time this subject was raised in the Marlpit. I feel bonfires should not be lit until 5pm and anyone who does lights them before then should have the same fine as the people that leave dog faeces about.

Mrs D Queripel
PS. Am I the only person to think this way? If you have an opinion on this please reply to The Marlpit. If, however, I am on my own I shall creep back quietly to my tumble drier.
