We are in the middle of performing Alan Ayckbourn's
Confusions, well I say the middle, but actually we
have just completed our first night. I believe it
was a success as everyone seemed to enjoy it immensely
and were laughing quite loudly at certain parts! As
this is the first time I have ever been on stage I
am enjoying it, but it is an absolutely nerve racking
experience. Especially that last minute before you
go out onto the stage, I forgot every line, I think
I was so scared I forgot who I was and what I was
doing there. I can only be extremely grateful to the
rest of the players who are very supportive. Let's
just hope the rest of the performances go as well!
And I really hope if you have been to see Confusions
that you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed performing
it!
I am not the only 'new' one on the stage in this
performance either. Kurt Coulson who is playing Terry
only joined in May. He and his girlfriend, Julie read
my article in the Marlpit begging for men to come
and join! She encouraged him to give me a ring, which
he did. Before he knew where he was he was auditioning
for and got the part! I don't think he realised it
was an audition as our director, Gay Lloyd, just asked
him to read it through for her. Very clever, Gay,
that's the way to catch them!
Julie has also got a very important role to play
in this performance. She is the prompt, which is an
integral part of any performance; well it is to those
of us who have complete memory loss when we get on
the stage! So if they can do it, so can you. I think
that both Julie and Kurt would agree that they have
enjoyed it immensely, even though they have been very
nervous, but it is really good fun. If you would like
to follow Kurt's example and join the Players, then
please give me a ring, my number is at the bottom
of the page.
The Jubilee Players don't seem to have time for a
summer holiday. No sooner will we have finished Confusions
then we will be starting on our next project. On Wednesday
the 24th July at the Tithe Barn at 7.30pm there will
be a read through of Nightmare, which will be directed
by Cynthia Gosling. The following Wednesday, 31st
July there will be the auditions, so if you feel you
would like to take part then please come along to
either the read through or the auditions, you would
be most welcome.
Just a quick joke to finish with courtesy of Nicola
Nobbs which made me chuckle. Did you hear about the
man who drowned in his muesli? He was pulled in by
a strong currant! All that remains is to wish you
an excellent summer and I will be back in September
with more news from the Players and hopefully better
jokes!
