August/September 2002

Our Summer Fayre raised the grand total of £573.62 - many thanks to all who helped and supported us.

We are going to Sloley Chapel on Sunday, 4th August at 2.30pm to lead a service (outside-weather permitting), so there will be no afternoon meeting in our hall that day.

The ecumenical Songs of Praise will be held at 6.30 pm on Sunday, 25th August and Sunday, 29th September - this is open to anyone and you would be made very welcome. Come along and sing your favourite hymn.

The Over 60's Club will take place on Mondays, 5th, 12th and 19th August and 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th September commencing at 2.30pm. If you would like to attend and need transport please telephone 737326.

Please note that as from August our Mini-Market and Coffee Mornings have extended opening hours from 9.30am till 11.30am.

Mini-Market with Light Refreshments will be held on Tuesdays, 6th and 20th August and 3rd and 17th September from 9.30am till 11.30am. (Tel: 01603 737326).

Coffee Mornings will be held on Tuesdays, 13th and 27th August and 10th and 24th September from 9.30am till 11.30am. Why not come along and enjoy a cup of coffee (or tea!) and a chat.

We are now able to receive your good quality clothing and bric-a-brac again - these items can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Hall any Tuesday between 9am and 11.30am or if you need them collected please telephone Mrs Ann Beaver on 01603 737326 to arrange.

Luncheon Club will take place each Wednesday in August and September at 12.30pm. If you know anyone who would benefit from attending this Luncheon Club (transport can be arranged) or if you would like to attend yourself, please contact Envoy on 737152.

Ladies Fellowship will recommence in September following the summer break and will be on Monday, 23rd at 8pm - our special guest for the evening will be Major Irene Draycott who is our new Divisional Family Officer based in Norwich. If you have never been to one of our meetings or you used to attend you would be especially welcome to come along and share with us. Our meetings are very friendly and informal and are open to any lady - you do not have to belong to the Salvation Army to attend. (Tel: Sue Blackburn - 737495 for more information).

September is the month for our Annual Appeal and we will be collecting door to door in the villages and surrounding areas to raise funds to finance the work of The Salvation Army in Great Britain. There is a tremendous amount of Social and Community Work that is run by the Salvation Army including soup runs, eventide homes, drug rehabilitation centres, homeless and drop in centres, day centres for the elderly and disabled, hostels, children's homes, mobile canteens, disaster aid. If you are able to help in collecting please contact Daphne Blake Tel: 736774.

Please give generously when someone knocks on your door - the work of The Salvation Army in this country could not continue without your support and your donation will help in changing the lives of those in need. We have a motto of 'where there's a need there's the Salvation Army' - we cannot do it without your help.

Please Note - our Christmas Fayre will be on Saturday, 16th November from 11am - 2pm.

Sue Blackburn
