December 2001 / January 2002

(Editor: It was evident from the correspondence we received that this play by the Jubilee Players was very well enjoyed by the audience. Unfortunately we haven't space to reproduce all the reviews fully and below are some extracts.)

"In a play with very little storyline it is in the acting of the characters that the success of the evening depends. We were certainly not let down by any of the performers."

"The characterisation was really excellent and each actor was straight out of the 20's and each earned top marks. So the storyline came alive."

"High quality of the Set Production, Costumes, lighting, house and stage management, refreshments, in fact everything was very professional and it all added up to a fine evening's entertainment and pleasure."

"Under the obviously skilled direction of Gay Lloyd, the players kept us amused and enthralled throughout."

"Brian Lloyd, as Major Benji, managed to bring a certain pathos and sensitivity to the role whilst still achieving the laughs. The scene where he was "slightly tipsy" was truly magnificent being both funny and strangely touching at the same time."

"Sheila Corner and Lib by Henshaw were also both excellent as Mapp and Lucia pitching the interchanges just right."

"Jane Risebrow made an absolutely splendid Godiva Plaistow."

"Carl Dennis, as Georgie, managed on the one hand to be effeminate enough to raise the worst suspicions of the Major, but to remain masculine enough to be a realistic and believable suitor for Lucia."

"Graham Blythe, as the Reverend Bartlett, was very amusing as a Scottish vicar, his delivery was sharp and clearly understandable."

"Alison Burns as Grosvenor looked, moved and spoke the servant very well, a nicely timed performance, not overdone. In fact all the smaller parts were handled very well."

"All in all a very enjoyable evening. When's the next production?"
