Many of the Coltishall residents already know me from old, but for those of you that I haven't yet met, may I introduce myself. My name is Jayne and I recently opened a beauty clinic in Point House. I have been in the hair and beauty trade for 18 years. Although I can't believe it's been quite that long or that I am getting quite that old! Initially I qualified as a hairdresser and manicurist but ten years ago I decided to further my training. I enrolled on a full time CIBTAC course at Henlow Grange Health Farm and also trained in therapeutic massage, aromatherapy and reflexology.

I will admit I undertook the reflexology as a total sceptic, but I thought that at least it would provide a relaxing alternative to aromatherapy for those who are a little shy. Reflex is done entirely on the feet, no undressing further than socks and shoes is required. I had to treat a number people for several treatments each, as case studies. One of these studies proved to me that there must be more to it than just 'hocus pocus'.

He was a little boy who was 15 months old with chronic chest congestion. He was completely fascinating to watch. To say he was textbook is an understatement. He could feel each reflex point on his feet, in the corresponding area on his body. When I worked on his eye reflex his fists would rub his eyes. When I worked his stomach reflex, he would tell me his toy 'hedgehogs tummy feels funny' - he always cuddled this while I gave his treatment. But the best bit happened when I worked his solar

plexus. He would close his eyes and cuddle into his mum for a snooze! Just the point every mum could use for easy bedtimes! It's really easy to find. Place you hand across the front of the toes and squeeze - gently. Where the skin wrinkles in the centre, just below the ball of the foot, is where you'll find the solar plexus. Give it a try it may help calm those temper tantrums too. Needless to say it helped his chest problems, so much so that when his baby brother came along, mum brought him along too. I would be the first to say go to the doctor in the first instance, but don't disregard complementary therapies. I firmly believe they have their place too.

Not all of my work is of the complementary therapy kind. I also do lots of the usual things such as waxing, electrolysis, manicures, pedicures and of course facials. Every few months I like to hold a special skincare promotion day. A beauty advisor comes along for the day with her skin scanner to provide high tech skin analysis on a one to one basis. She views your skin through the machine and can detect areas prone to pigmentation, sun damage, dehydration and signs of ageing. You can also see your reflection inside the machine, which proves to be quite scary for some when faced with the evidence of what Smoking, Sunbathing and Soap can cause. Following the analysis she does a mini facial using the products that suit your skin condition. One mini facial won't correct the damage caused by the 3S's, but everyone leaves with a much calmer, smoother and clearer skin, and a little more know-how as far as skincare goes.

One last word. I will be providing a hints and tips slot for the Marlpit. So if you have any questions on skincare etc, that you would like me to help with, then telephone, 01603 736900, or write to me at Solitaire, Point House, Coltishall, NR12 7AA. Naturally strict confidentiality will be kept at all times.

Jayne
