December 2002 / January 2003

November Update: The Tombola team went along to the Wroxham Football Club Fireworks display on Sunday 3rd, £80 will wing its way into the Air Ambulance pot, thanks for all who supported it. We have bought a Yeoman sailboat for The Nancy Oldfield Trust, it is being fitted out with extra buoyancy and adapted for their use - we hope to have bottle-breaking ceremony when it is launched in the spring.

The shop is bursting with goodies! Give us look and help support local charities. We thank them also for their donations; left over from their sales, we can sell good quality clothes and bits and bobs - although we can give them piles of coat hangers! Special thanks to The Salvation Army who turn their stock round quite regularly - so if it is easier to take your donations there please do. Mr Bailey of Hoveton won this month's draw, held for all those who donated items for sale thanks to him a cheque of £100 has been sent to 'Arthritis Care'.

We have received a letter of thanks from The Mardler, the North Norfolk Talking Newspaper they needed specialist equipment to speed up the duplication of high quality audiocassettes. We were able to help them; hopefully their Award of Excellence for 2002 will become the TNAUK's top award Talking Newspaper of the Year 2003, won this year by Chichester. Further information about The Mardler is available from Peter Holdaway, Tel 737431

The Lions get involved with lots of things, old hearing aids - we can pass them on so that they can be overhauled and used again. Old Mobile phones! We send them to a company who gives up to £5 to Great Ormond Street Hospital for children.

Please take them along to The Lions Shop or 'carefully' drop them in the 'Spectacle bin' in the Chemists in Coltishall.

We received some disturbing stories of how a third world country manages without basic dental tools, imagine having your teeth prodded about with filed down bicycle spokes! The Dentaid Officer was suitably gob smacked with our offer to fund a complete kit at just over £2,000.

This month we have our Christmas selection of carols and seasonal tunes in The Precinct, shaking our buckets to the cassette on the Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd - the proceeds will go to the Night Shelter. We have by the way, as we do every year, given St Martins Trust (The Night Shelter) a pre-Christmas donation to help pay for the meal at Christmas. We will be pleased to see you, isn't it a satisfying sound when a £1 or 10p drops into a bucket, try it - your £1 - our bucket!

All tickets have been sold for the 25th Anniversary Thursford Christmas Spectacular, Sunday, 8th December, ring the shop if you are going and need further details

If you know of a needy lonely person or family you think might appreciate a little help at Christmas, please let us know, no body else will know about it - we may be able to help!
