Walking alone in the dark

When I walk alone in the dark,
I see the trees they reminds me of big people.
I hear the hooting of the owl.
The cars coming round the corner they make an almighty roar.
The wind howling round my ears, like someone or something trying to say something to me.
The moon flashing on the trees, that make a shadow of me.
My shadow on the ground moves around.
Bats come out from the trees that make me jump.
Birds are moving around in the hedges.
I hear my foot steps they sound like cracking fireworks.
Next time I will remember not to walk alone in the dark!

DAYDREAMS

Mr Fowkes thinks I'm listening
But really I'm fighting sharks
Deep under water
Riding on dolphin's backs, as I glide through the ocean
Then I climb on the shore and a volcano erupts
Lava pouring down the banks like treacle trickling down the side of a pudding
I scream and jump back into the water
My hands are shaking
Like leaves blowing in the breeze
I love Daydreams!!
Alexandra Hockett Age 10

Mr Fowkes thinks I'm reading
But really I have scored the winning goal
I smacked it in the top right hand corner where the goalie didn't even get a look in
The crowd cheered
And screamed as the Brazil fans did a deep boo
I ran over to the crowd
All the people with football shirts had my name on the back
I had scored and made England win
The players clapped as I held up the cup
Put your books away bellowed Mr Fowkes.
Lewis Martin

Mr Fowkes thinks I'm working but I'm not
I'm beating Man Utd two nil
I want to score the winning goal
In the World Cup final
I want to be like David Beckham
But play for Norwich City
Or race in a Ferrari like Michael Schumacher.
James Terrington Age 10

Mr Fowkes thinks I'm listening to him,
But really I'm splashing in and out of the water,
Soaring through the water on dolphins backs,
Dodging and hiding from fearsome sharks,
Jellyfish glide through the water,
Their poisonous stingers glowing like a dim fire.
Fish of every sort float through the calm sea,
Suddenly I'm surrounded by terrifying, man-eating sharks,
I swim for cover the sharks racing after me,
Like a bad guy in the movies,
I love having daydreams.
Rebecca Heard Age 11

Mr Fowkes thinks I'm listening
But I'm scoring goals
Winning the FA Cup
Lifting the World Cup for England
Being Alan Shearer in the number 9 shirt
Playing for Newcastle Utd and England
A great footballer me!

Now he thinks I'm reading
But I'm shooting bad guys
Running from explosions
I am an actor.

Now I think he's seen me
But I'm on Mars
Seeing Aliens
Racing Asteroids
It looks fun being an astronaut.
Tony Thrussell Age 10

Mr Fowkes thinks I'm listening
but really I'm daydreaming,
of being a deep-sea diver,
swimming with sharks and gliding
on dolphins backs,
or being a top hair stylist cutting
pop stars and movie stars hair
or being a policewomen arresting
criminals from street to street.

Donna Taylor Age 11

My teacher thinks I am reading
But I'm doing a French plait
On a film star
Or washing my friends hair
With home made shampoo
In my own hair salon.

My Mum thinks I am tidying my room
But I am an archaeologist
Finding chipped glass and broken bones
I am finding jewellery and old coins.

My Dad thinks I am reading
But I am teaching year six
History, Art, DT and English
Helping them learn for a future career.

I'm on the swing, swinging,
To and fro…..
I'm dreaming I'm a diver
Swimming with wild dolphins
The dolphins are talking to each other
I wish I could talk to them.

I'm dreaming I'm stopping the wars
Being bold and brave
Turning the bad to good
Making everyone happy.

CRASH! My dream ended when I fell off the swing!

Rebecca Edmunds Age 10

Poor Mr Fowkes … is anybody paying attention in his class?

This is only a small selection of the many excellent poems we were sent. There were also some excellent illustrations to these poems but unfortunately we could not reproduce them here.
