July 2002

It would seem that the all-too-rare high note of genuine originality was struck by one of our members, Gisela Revill, in her unique creation at the Church Fete Jubilee Hat Competition. This inspiring entry depicted an elegant swan discreetly bearing the obligatory red/white/blue colours - a challenge to any professional design yet displayed at Ascot's Ladies' Day.

The W.I. played a small part in the recent very enjoyable Church Fete and also welcomed the opportunity to hold a Coffee Morning on 19th June to help in raising funds for Coltishall Primary School - hopefully just a forerunner for the bumper success of their School Summer Fete on Saturday 6th July between 11am and
2 pm.

An excellent Talk in June added to the unreal atmosphere of a balmy Summer evening when we heard from a retired Metropolitan Police Sergeant (Mr John Allport) about the vast scope and diversity of investigations into one particular crime network. The core conspiracy and stratagem far outstripped any fictional plot, all springing from the simple world of toys manufacture.

Our interesting visit to Cook's Chocolate Centre will soon be followed by a River Deben Trip and Summer Garden Party with a complete change of lunch venue in a new Fish and Chips Restaurant.

Sheila Bradbury's Flower Arranging in July will bring us into the annual break until September.
