Those of you who are observant may have noticed that
our name has slightly changed. Yes, we are for one
month only the Silver Jubilee Players.
From humble beginnings in 1977, the group has grown
and grown and hopefully will continue to do so. It
all started with a Victorian melodrama called 'Hiss
the Villain' which was performed by a huge cast of
six! Placards were held up to instruct the audience
when to hiss and boo, etc. I have it on good authority
(thank you Carol White), that it was so well received,
people encouraged them to continue, and hence the
Jubilee players were born. After a delay of a year
waiting for repairs to the Tithe Barn to be completed,
the Players have delighted and entertained this area
for twenty-five glorious years.
The current group of Players are performing Alan
Ayckbourn's Confusions. We will be doing four of the
five one-act plays. The evening will begin with 'Mother
Figure' which will be directed by Gay Lloyd, followed
by 'Drinking Companions' directed by Neil Phillips
and 'A Talk in the Park' directed by Libby Henshaw.
There will be the usual interval with refreshments
and a licensed bar available. To round off the evening
'Gosforths Fete' which will again be directed by Neil
Phillips.
I do hope you will come along and help us celebrate
our anniversary. The performances will be on Wednesday
17th, Thursday 18th and Friday 19th of July.
