July 2002

I write with reference to the article from Paul Heffer that appeared in the June issue and wish to clarify some of the points raised.

Firstly, I can confirm that at no time was there any intention of charging the Coltishall Under 16's Football Team for use of the facilities at the football field but it was passed by the committee that the Senior Football Teams should have some small fee towards the running and maintenance costs. Also, with regard to the Cricket Club, it was never stated that they would not contribute in the same way, and they have indeed agreed, and are paying match fees in accordance with the CCA's recommendations.

Currently the football changing rooms and tea hut are in an appalling state and require funds to improve them. In the past the only way the CCA has raised funds for such expense has been through hall lettings and Social Club profits.

Mr Heffer commented on how many teams were playing by 1995 but times change and the number of people willing to help with fundraising and organising has diminished considerably. This is reflected by the recent cancellation of the Jubilee Firework celebrations - we were very sorry to have to cancel this, but again due to lack of support, we felt we had no choice.

The CCA has had repairs carried out to both car parks as they were full of pot holes and I hope that those of you reading this, that use the car parks but that don't currently support us, will have appreciated it.

We would like to purchase a Half Pipe for the skate-boarding children in the village although it is disheartening to see the amount of vandalism to the current facilities and the money having to be spent to put this right.

Perhaps this is some food for thought for those people that complain that the children have nothing to do. We would sincerely love to be able to provide new facilities for our next generation and maybe with some real support through new fund raising ideas and a helping hand with various events, we can all make this possible.

Finally may I just add for clarification, that all CCA and committee members give up their time voluntarily - with no remuneration - for the efforts they make.

Yours sincerely

Tony Hurst
Chairman of CCA
