July 2003

All the members were thrilled at the success of our entry for the Colonel Cator Cup when we came 8th out of 43 entries. Many thanks to all the hard work of the members involved. Las Vegas hit Coltishall when several members spent a very enjoyable evening playing cards - the stakes are low, but entertainment high. This is likely to become a regular event new recruits are always welcome.

It was gratifying to see a very good turn out for the May meeting when the members had an opportunity to voice their opinions on this year’s resolutions. The meeting was pleased to welcome Mrs Rita Caves, a County advisor, and Mrs Osborne, from Hoveton, who will be the club’s delegate at the Annual General Meeting. Ruth Eades spoke about the first resolution ‘Obesity in children’, Rita Caves then outlined the second motion advocating ‘Vocational training for 16 - 24 year olds’ and finally Margaret Waite presented the case for more ‘Care for the elderly’. All three motions generated lively debate, everyone agreeing that these subjects needed to be addressed at all levels. They were passed unanimously.

On a dull but warm June evening a medium sized party of members and husbands met at the Forum for a guided tour of’ the historical sites of the inner city of Norwich. Our guide, Mr Richard Cooke, took us on a trip filled with knowledge, anecdotes and fascinating titbits of our heritage. Everyone agreed it was a wonderful two hours and brought our ‘Fine City’ to life.
