• News From The Bell Tower •

July 2003

Starting off on a rather sad note, I have to report the death of Doctor David R M Heighton, the President of the Norwich Diocesan Association of Ringers, who died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Saxlingham Nethergate. A memorial service was held for him at St Peter Mancroft Norwich on Saturday 28th June at 2 pm. An invited band rang a Quarter Peal after the service, and we offer our condolences to the family and friends.

On a happier note we rang out the wedding bells for Simon and Emma on 26th April. A lovely song ‘Morning Has Broken’, which I haven't heard for a long time was sung loud and clear, and which we all enjoyed listening to in the Bell Tower! There were four bridesmaids and as the photographs were being taken the sun shone through the clouds and the cameras snapped away merrily. As usual we wish them much happiness in their new life together.

If you are looking to have a day out, then why note try the ‘Ringing Road Show’ Saturday, 26th July, 10.30 am to 5 pm at the Lincolnshire show ground, A15, 4 miles North of Lincoln. There will be over 60 exhibitors, and I will mention just a few for you - Fairground Organs, Ropes, Clock Winding Motors, crafts, handbells, books, jewellery simulators, Bell Founders, Hangers and much, much more. English Heritage will be there and of course a Beer Tent! For more information visit: www.cccbr.org.uk/info/prog/roadshow.htm or follow the links from the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers website, so they tell
