| The wedding took place at Aylsham
Methodist Church on Saturday, 14th July 2003 of Mr
R Deirsley and Mrs E Culley. Both Residents of Aegel
House, Aylsham and aged 83 and 93 respectively. Dee’s
great granddaughter Roseanna was bridesmaid.
Mr Deirsley was affectionately known to most people
in Horstead and Coltishall as Dee.
When Dee was a bit younger he used to ride in a speedway
team. Many of you will remember he opened his garden
at 1 Rectory Road, Horstead for various organisations
on many occasions and he still found time to cut the
grass for many residents in Horstead, also the churchyard.
Dee would stand at his gate most days and everyone
who went up or down Rectory Road would either stop
for a chat or wave and cars would give him a toot.
Dee was also the collection point for Horstead people
to pick up their Evening News after the closure of
Globe Stores (Seaman’s shop).
Mrs Culley attended the Wesleyan Chapel in Rectory
Road, Coltishall for many years and was well known
in the villages of Horstead and Coltishall. Strangely
enough although both Dee and Edna used to live in
Horstead they did not know each other until they became
residents of Aegel House.
I am sure all the Marlpit readers will join me in
wishing them health and happiness for the future.
God bless them both.
