March 2002

Distribution Problems: At our recent Editors' meeting we discussed the problems that occurred during the previous months' putting together of the Marlpit. A number of people may well have received their paper late and some may have had a page missing as one stapler found she had too many of one page. We do apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused individuals and to groups and organisations whose advertisements for events may not have reached everybody on time.

The main problem is with getting the paper collated and stapled so I am making another plea for additional staplers to come forward to help with production. The more collators/staplers we have the fewer each individual has to do and the speedier is the production. If you feel you can help please contact Hilary Oliver or any other editor to offer your services. Delays such as those experienced this month make us realise what a valuable team we have in the villages. Thank you all for your hard work.
Welcome: We would like to welcome Geoff Hooten who has kindly volunteered to deliver to the far reaches of Horstead and Stanninghall. This area previously had no deliverer so we are very grateful to Geoff for making us aware of this and taking on the job.

Sand & Gravel Extraction:
Further to my report on the proposed sand and gravel extraction locally, I noted with interest in the Eastern Daily Press the other day, that another village in Norfolk had objected to an application to place such a site near their village. The council had received 85 letters of objection and the application was refused. People power can work it would seem. (This article is reprinted on page 12.)

Editor's Note: Apparently there was some confusion in the February issue of the Marlpit over the planning applications - the Editors would like to point out that the Editorial for February clearly pointed out that there were two separate applications under discussion, one from Long water Gravel which had already been submitted to the Council and one proposed application by Tarmac.

Yearly Events Diary: A suggestion has been made that we include a Yearly Diary in the Marlpit that will give notice of planned events throughout the year. It is hoped that such a diary might help organisations to avoid planning an event on the same day as another group. If you have got a date in mind for an event later in the year, please let us know so that we can put it in the Yearly Diary.
