March 2003

We started off the New Year in great style, having a surplus of ringers for our Sunday morning service, how about that, when quite a few churches find it very difficult to get more that four or five at the most for Sunday ringing.

On Sunday, 2nd February, our Family Service Day, we were very pleased to be ringing because a certain little boy called George Pummell was Christened. He seemed to quite enjoy the proceedings, and the Revd. Lorna Wood assured his family that the water had been warmed as this took place during the particularly cold snowy period we had, so he quite enjoyed that part of the service as well. Hopefully we shall see them all again at the next Family Service.

On 1st February there was a practise at Tunstead Church from 3 to 4.30 pm this being a Saturday afternoon, and many members were wondering if the event would be cancelled because of the freezing conditions and very bad side roads, but it went ahead as planned. There were ten members in all turned up, these coming from all corners of the Northern Branch, never mind the weather they were going to have a good practise, and with Mark Phillipson as Ringing Master various methods were rung on the eight bells.
