Few of us can aspire to celebrate our
100th birthday with the innate charm and wisdom unique
to Miss Dorothy Girling - let alone receive a special
card from the Queen and have the village bells ringing
in our honour!! Dorothy is a perfect ambassadress
for our W.I., respected and fondly welcomed at all
our meetings. She held 'Open House' all day on Wednesday
17th April at her home and we, in turn, will celebrate
her one hundredth birthday at our meeting on Wednesday
15th May in The Church Rooms.
Despite the fact that many of us were familiar with
the House of Commons, having an official Guide to
take us around the Parliament Buildings was most instructive
and we much enjoyed the coach trip there in April.
This was followed next day by a presentation of the
History of Masquerade and Venetian Masks given by
Mrs Janet Steel. Again, although many of us felt we
knew Venice, few had previously been aware of the
varied and wondrous masks and disguises adopted for
the Annual Masquerade interwoven with local history.
I think we saw Venice for the first time and enjoyed
our unusual meeting!
'Resolutions' will be discussed at our meeting on
Wednesday 15th May and, as always, those non-members
interested in joining us are welcome to come along
at 7.30pm to the Church Rooms on the third Wednesday
of each month.
