The other day Ben and I had a 'boys'
day out at Mundesley . . . hitting some golf balls,
kicking a football, flying a kite etc. The only requirement
was that we stopped on the way back at 'Tavern Tasty
Meats' a Rare Breed Survival Trust Butchers at Swafield
for some of their sausages. No problem there (I even
remembered to do it. . . probably because it related
to food). These butchers do an excellent variety of
sausages and usually have some cooked 'samples' for
customers to try. It must have been all the exercise
because Ben 'demolished' all the samples in no time
at all in what I, and hopefully the butcher, could
only take as 'approval'. While we were ordering our
'supplies' one of the butchers brought out a carcass
of a half of a pig, laid it on the worktop behind
the counter and proceeded to 'attack' it with a large
chopper.
I was curious as to the impact this would have on
Ben, who until this point in time had only seen the
carcass of a chicken and had probably not associated
other 'meats' with the animals he sees in the fields.
At the time it seemed to have no impact at all as
he did not make any comment.
Later on however he related the event to his Mum.
. . 'you'll never believe what happened next Mum,
this man brought out this absolutely huge chicken
and started to cut it up with a chopper'. It's a rare
breed indeed that has chickens that size, not to mention
the eggs.
