At our April meeting the exhortation and Silent Tribute which included a silence in memory of H M the Queen Mother, were led by our Chairman, Bob Jennings.

Reporting on the last County Committee meeting, Bob pointed out that the County Rally at Thetford on Sunday 16th June would include service exhibitions and displays, a Hog Roast and Beer Tent, a car boot sale, trade and craft stalls, etc. Three bands have been booked for the event which will make for a great day out to which members of the public will be welcome to come along and enjoy it.

Some 400 Legion Standards will parade in London on Tuesday 4th June as part of the celebrations for H M the Queen's Golden Jubilee. There will also be a parade of Legion Standards on Thursday 17th June at the Royal Norfolk Show.

The main topic of our meeting was the extremely successful Quiz Evening which raised £373 for our Branch Funds. Our most sincere thanks go to our President, Jack Campbell, who organised the event and took on the role of Quizmaster; to Harvey and Irene Meadows who took care of the marking and scoring; to our Welfare Secretary, Margaret Montgomery, and her team of ladies who produced such a splendid meal ( and did the washing up); and finally, of course, to all who supported -the event and to those who donated raffle prizes.

Not only does this excellent result stabilise our finances but it also shows the high esteem in which the Legion is still held.

It might be the appropriate, therefore to appeal for another kind of support which is needed to ensure the Legion's work is carried on in the district - NEW MEMBERS.

Next year will see the 80th anniversary of our local branch. During that time many ex-Service people, widows and dependants have been helped through difficult times with grants from Branch funds or the Poppy Appeal Fund. On occasions the annual total of grants made even exceeded the total collected in the district during the November Poppy Appeal Week!

Also during that time the Branch has won many awards including, in 1935, the prestigious Earl Haig Cup - awarded to the most efficient and progressive small branch in England and Wales.

Such a tradition should not be allowed to just fade away. If you agree why not join to help. You do NOT, repeat, NOT have to have been in the Services - but just a willingness to keep the Legion' s work alive in the district.

Ring Bob 738335; Benjie 738325; Charlie 737544 - or better still come to our next meeting to meet us.

Don 't leave it to somebody else. YOU come.
