May 2002

I am aware that some distress was caused in the community because the Union Jack was not flown at half-mast from Coltishall Church tower immediately following the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. I was not myself aware of this until the following weekend.

The Clergy, Churchwardens and PCC of the parish of Coltishall apologise most sincerely for any, entirely unintentional, offence that was caused by the lack of the flag during the mourning period. We fully acknowledge that the flag should have been flown throughout the whole period and very much regret that this was not the case.

We did, at least, manage to get our act together in time for the day of the funeral when the flag was flown and the bells chimed one hundred and one times in honour of the Queen Mother's great age. We would also wish to pay our tribute to a lifetime of service to our nation and to a much loved national figure. We extend our deepest sympathy to Her Majesty The Queen who in this her Jubilee year has lost both her mother and her sister in very short order.

The Rev'd Chris. Walter
