November 2003

You have heard of Pop Idol and Fame Academy , now it's time for Jubilee Players Idol Academy , well something like that anyway. We are on the lookout for a keyboard player, well I say lookout, perhaps I should say feverishly searching for!

I will explain a bit further. As you are probably aware we are fast approaching pantomime time. We will have just completed the excellent Season's Greetings by Alan Ayckbourn (and for those of you who went to see it, I hope you enjoyed it), so we will be moving onto the next project. And as sure as night follows day, the October production is always followed by the pantomime. This year we are without our excellent musical director, Laurence Blyth, so we desperately need a replacement. If you know of anyone who could help us out or maybe you are a piano player, just contact me and I will be able to explain a bit more. Obviously you will have to able to attend rehearsals and help those of us who are a bit rusty on the old singing side; mind you there aren't many of those who struggle with singing as the chorus for every pantomime I have been involved in has been excellent. And, yes I am sure the chorus for the pantomimes I haven't been involved in were excellent too. It reminds me of the advice my mum used to give me, ‘Jayne, when you are in a hole stop digging'. So perhaps I will stop there before I upset someone. I should also point out that the Jubilee Players are quite willing to pay for the services of a keyboard player, as we realise what hard work it is and we would appreciate. So please, please, don't be shy, if there is anyone out there in Marlpit land that can help, please get in contact.

Okay, that's enough of the begging I am beginning to sound a bit desperate, but I can't emphasise enough how important this is, the pantomime is a huge production and without music, it just wouldn't be the same. The Jubilee Players have also another sort of production in December; we have been invited by the Coltishall and Horstead Women's Institute to provide the entertainment for their Christmas party. This is a bit of a new venture for us and it is an honour to have been asked and we gladly accepted the invitation, so it looks like a busy time ahead for the Players. Well, isn't it always, it seems like we never stop, but its good fun!
