October 2003

As expected it has been a very busy summer helped by the most wonderful weather.

At the July meeting members were told that Coltishall Parish council does not at the moment support the ‘Dial a Ride’ bus scheme, which provides a valuable service to much of the community. Members were asked to lobby the Parish Councillors to win support for this project.

The stall at the Horstead Church Fete was very successful, bolstering both group’s funds.

Dr Steven Ashworth from the UEA then gave a talk using all the latest technology, computer-aided projection slides and close-circuit TV, entitled ‘The Cure of the Bright Lights’. He demonstrated the advances in composite materials used in dentistry. Members were asked to be able assistants and help by using super glue and acting as free radicals! A visit to the dentist will be much more fun now, after this very illuminating and educational talk!!!

On a beautiful summer afternoon about 30 members and husbands were met at the Erpingham Gate by Mr Chris Weston, who led a tour of the Cathedral, pointing out the interesting Features that are not mentioned in the guide book. The tour concluded with a very welcome cup of tea in the restaurant.

On yet another very hot afternoon the ladies gathered in the beautiful garden of Chris Hubbard. The tables were groaning with a wonderful selection of eats. It was a super event with the gentle hum of conversation and the chink of tea-cups - a very typical English tea-party.

Wednesday, 15th October is ‘Our 80th Birthday Party’ to be held in the Village Hall. It will be a special meeting, so do come along.
